How should I prevent myself from getting my items stolen?

I'm visiting Vietnam this summer, and I absolutely have to have my DSLR with me. But I've heard stories that at Vietnam, people tend to steal a lot even going as low as knocking someone off of a moped just to get a valuable item. So how should I protect my camera and myself?
