Why do human beings place such a great importance on companionship of the opposite sex?

There is such thing as being asexual, where you have no desire for sexual fulfillment with another human being. It's a small minority of the population who are asexual. Just as you don't appreciate others instructing you on your emotional state, I am sure others would appreciate you refraining from instructing them.
