Why does white smoke blow out of my moped muffler?

I was riding my moped and looked over my shoulder. I saw white smoke coming out strong from the muffler. The faster I accelerate. The more smoke comes from the muffler. It smells like gas.. I turned off the moped and then restarted. White smoke blows out of the muffler.
