Information on buying a moped anyone?

so im 16 years old and i live in Charlotte, NC and from what i hear you can own a moped without any kind of licence at the age of 16 but u cant go on the highway/interstate. if anyone would like to correct my current information or tell me anymore advice i should know please let me know. thanks in advance (:
